President Barack Obama laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in a ceremony during which he known as veterans "individuals who fought for our freedom and stood sentry for our safety." "On this hillside of solemn remembrance, in veterans' halls and in proud parades across America, we subscribe to as one folks to honor a debt we will never totally repay," Obama said. "They step up, they lift their fingers, they take that oath, they placed on the uniform and they put their lives on the road." The president singled out World Struggle Two U.S. Military veteran Richard Overton, who at 107 is believed to be the nation's oldest surviving veteran. At Arlington, Overton stood and smiled as the target market at the ceremony applauded.
