The FBI’s top agent in New York, James E. Dennehy, vowed to “dig in” and stand his floor as the agency reels from a wave of removals focused on officers involved in the investigation of the January sixth attack.

The internal memo to body of workers adopted the Justice Division’s order on Friday for the FBI to bring together a listing of personnel involved within the sprawling Jan. 6 investigation. With as many as 6,000 agents and workers probably flagged, concerns are mounting that President Donald Trump’s appointees intend to carry out a sweeping purge of occupation officials.

The shake-up has already ended in the removal of at least nine high-ranking FBI officers since the start of the Trump administration, growing what Dennehy described as “fear and angst throughout the F.B.I. ranks.” Adding to that tension is a controversial questionnaire requiring retailers to disclose their roles in investigating and prosecuting January 6th rioters.

withIn the fiery e-mail to his personnel bought through The New York Occasions, Dennehy recounted the turmoil and indicated he had no intention of standing down.

“Today, we find ourselves in the course of a combat of our personal, as excellent people are being walked out of the F.B.I. and others are being centered because they did their jobs in response to the regulation and F.B.I. policy,” he wrote.

Dennehy when put next the current scenario to his experience as a Marine when he was once required to dig a foxhole for security.

“It sucked,” he wrote. “But it worked.”

He went on to reward the 2 high acting officials on the F.B.I., acting director Brian Driscoll and acting deputy director Robert C. Kissane, as “warriors” for “combating” on behalf of the team of workers.

Amid suggested nervousness throughout the agency, Kissane attempted to reassure staff, writing in an email: “We do not view somebody’s identification on the list as a hallmark of any misconduct… We’re nonetheless working with D.O.J. to better have in mind the purpose for which the list is being sought.”
