The U.S. Senate passed a stopgap funding measure on Thursday night time to maintain the federal government working via mid-February. The sixty nine-28 bipartisan vote averted a possible shutdown, that critics of the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate for better employers had been pushing for.
“I am happy that in spite of everything, cooler heads prevailed. The government will keep open and I thank the participants of this chamber for strolling us again from the brink from an avoidable, unnecessary and costly shutdown,” Senate Majority Chief Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said on Thursday.
The Senate passed its resolution hours after the Home of Representatives approved the measure 221-212 with the reinforce of only one Republican. The measure now goes to President Joe Biden for his signature.
Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Roger Marshall (R-KS) provided an amendment amounting to a partial shut down over the weekend.
“It’s now not government’s job, it’s no longer inside executive’s authority to inform those that they should be vaccinated and if they don’t get vaccinated, they get fired. It’s fallacious. It’s immoral,” Lee mentioned of his modification protesting Biden’s vaccine/testing mandate. Lee’s modification was once defeated.
