CNN commentator Scott Jennings, a Republican, envisioned former Vice President Mike Pence will run for his birthday celebration’s nomination for president in 2024.

Pence is a protracted shot, though, Jennings mentioned. Best a potential candidate corresponding to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is prone to defeat former President Donald Trump in a crowded main.

The network contributor joined AC360 to speak about comments made through Pence on Friday to the Federalist Society in Orlando with reference to his position in to “overturn” the previous election:

There are those in our birthday celebration who consider that as the presiding officer over the joint session of Congress, that I possess unilateral authority to reject Electoral School votes. And I heard this week that President Trump mentioned I had the right to overturn the election. However President Trump is incorrect. I had no right to overturn the election.

Jennings joined Paul Begala and Anderson Cooper to discuss the potential ramifications of what many are calling the former vice chairman’s repudiation of Trump.

Anderson Cooper asked Jennings, “Do you assume Mike Pence has a shot at, you realize, profitable the Republican nomination for president?”

Jennings replied,

You already know, I in truth suppose he has muted chance. I mean, I believe he’s going to run. I believe he’s going to be well thought of by a lot of people. But I think the odds of him getting the nomination aren’t as excessive as anyone like Ron DeSantis. I think in a roundabout way if Trump is to be crushed in a first-rate, it’s going to be through anyone who is going to be considered as pure on a lot of concerns, but also not having, you recognize, publicly rebuked President Trump.

And DeSantis is pure on various the Covid concerns, pure on the whole Florida ethos and conservatism that goes on down there. And he’s been able to remain out of this fray. So I actually suppose Mike Pence’s voice is vital. I think it will be part of the major. But the ultimate beneficiary of it, politically, will be somebody who wasn’t involved on Jan. 6. That could be someone like DeSantis.

Jennings mentioned he believes Trump will run, and that if he faces Pence, the latter will lose.

“If there are folks in the combine, probably, that might boomerang round to their benefit,” he stated.
