Former President Donald Trump has lost yet another bid to prolong the start of his criminal trial in New york, which is ready to begin on Monday.

Trump is beneath indictment for what District Lawyer Alvin Bragg says used to be the ex-president’s falsification of industry records to hide hush cash payments to maintain extramarital affairs underneath wraps. The defendant has pleaded now not responsible to all 34 criminal counts he faces in the case.

CNN’s Paula Reid broke the news on Wednesday’s episode of The Lead with Jake Tapper.

“Paula, breaking news,” Tapper stated. “What has the courtroom made up our minds? Are they going to delay the trial as a result of Donald Trump has presidential immunity?”

“They don’t seem to be,” she answered. “He’s o for 3 sooner than the New York [Appellate Division] this week. This was once his 0.33 travel this week… seeking to get them to prolong this hush cash trial, which is scheduled to begin on Monday.”

Reid stated that Trump’s attorneys claimed they need extra time to argue the problem of presidential immunity, which they are saying renders Trump immune from acts he committed as president.

“Now, this has been rejected, but this isn’t the last stop in the state of New York,” she continued. “They could doubtlessly… take this problem to the Court docket of Appeals, which is the best possible courtroom – the final destination for cases in the state of New York.”

(For clarification, the Court of Appeals is indeed the best possible court docket in New York, above the Appellate Divisions, which in flip are above the Supreme Courts, which are actually the lower courts. Sure, it is bizarre.)

The judge who rejected Trump this time around was Choose Ellen Gesmer, who issued a two-web page ruling.

“Now it’s unclear if that court would indulge this appeal,” Reid introduced. “But if they’re able to get an answer from that best courtroom in the state of New York, they would then have the option to probably ask the Supreme Court to remain this case, the hush cash case while the [U.S.] Supreme Court considers the difficulty of presidential immunity in another case – within the federal election subversion case. That argument will be heard on April twenty fifth.”

Trump is underneath indictment in three other jurisdictions, including the aforementioned election subversion case in federal court docket in Washington, D.C. His legal professionals argue that his efforts to overturn the 2020 election are lined by presidential immunity.
