Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) added his name to the growing list of political figures, including conservatives, who’re urging President Donald Trump to not accept a $four hundred million luxury jet from the Qatari government as a present.

Trump said he’ll settle for a Boeing 747-8 often called the “Flying Palace” from the Qatari royal family, including that the jet will serve as Air Power One. However, his yet-to-be-constructed presidential library will preserve the plane when he leaves place of business. The president, who lashed out at critics over his determination to just accept the plane despite the brilliant-purple moral flags, claims he will no longer use it after his presidency.

The president and his domestic industry, the Trump Organization, have accomplished business in Qatar. Simply closing month, Eric Trump visited the capital of Doha to talk with officers about constructing a new $5.5 billion golf membership in the united states. His father will visit Qatar this week after a cease in Saudi Arabia.

On Monday’s Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox Information, Paul used to be requested for his response.

“Qatar just made Trump an offer he can’t refuse,” Jesse Watters mentioned. “A $four hundred million Air Force One replacement because Boeing didn’t ship their jet on time. Trump can experience it unless his term is up. Democrats are calling this a bribe, but [Attorney General] Pam Bondi says it’s prison so long as he transfers the jet to his library and eventually switches back to Trump Force One. He says most effective a stupid particular person would no longer take the deal.”

Paul responded by pronouncing Trump must decline the present.

“The constitution in Article II talks concerning the president can’t take emoluments or presents from foreign leaders,” the senator said. “And so, there’s a provision in the Constitution that says that you could’t do this. And so, the query is, are you able to do it provided that it’s only for legitimate functions?”

He went on to assert that “it’s not worth the appearance of impropriety, whether or not it’s mistaken or not.”

“So, if Qatar does give it to him and he says, ‘Howdy, Rand, you wanna hop on the jet down to Palm Beach, you’ll say, ‘No’?” Watters responded.

The senator dodged the query ahead of reiterating, “I feel it’s a mistake, and it’s just bringing up one thing he doesn’t need.”
