Director Sam Esmail was requested if he obtained Tesla’s permission to incorporate the scene during a contemporary interview with Rolling Stone. He didn’t:

I edited it in post, I showed it to Netflix, I crossed my fingers. And to this present day, no one has said anything to me. So yeah, I’m hoping the movie comes out and nobody will say anything else.
