The Washington Soccer Workforce has a brand new identify — or, reasonably, a title.

The workforce announced Thursday that henceforth, they’ll be referred to as the Washington Commanders.

The announcement comes after a year-and-a-half of lengthy process. In July 2020, the team abandoned its earlier name, the Redskins, which had long been condemned by way of Native American groups. They performed the remaining two NFL seasons because the Washington Football Workforce.

Word concerning the new title got out a few days early due to Joe Theismann, a legendary former Washington quarterback. Theismann, in a radio appearance, dropped the name and threw his reinforce at the back of it.

“I think the Commanders is a name that is going to be person who hopefully individuals like going forward,” Theismann said on CBS Sports activities Radio Monday. He brought, “A Commander, principally, it’s Washington D.C. Quite a few commanders in Washington D.C., in the Pentagon and a lot of completely different branches of the provider. So to me, that’s really the best way I’m having a look at it, as positions of leadership with regards to the new title.”
