House Republicans will inspect the Department of Transportation’s response to the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, alleging Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg’s sluggish involvement according to CBS News.

Criticism from Republicans pointed to Buttigieg not journeying East Palestine quicker and taking 10 days to publicly handle the catastrophe.

Home Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky) and different Republicans are demanding all information involving Buttigieg’s response – from records displaying when he found out concerning the derailment, DOT train repairs processes to communications involving the Nationwide Transportation Security Board.

“Regardless of the U.S. Division of Transportation’s responsibility to make sure safe and reliable transport in america, you neglected the disaster for over per week,” Republicans wrote to Buttigieg. “The American people deserve solutions as to what led to the derailment, and DOT needs to supply an cause of its leadership’s apathy in the face of this emergency.”

The East Palestine 38-automotive derailment led to well being and safety issues involving water and air quality.

The preliminary NTSB investigation found that the alarm detected the new axle and alerted the train three times.

The report concluded that the crew replied in an instant to the alarm – stopping the train, but the wheel bearing broke with increased breaking effort.

Buttigieg met with East Palestine residents and was up to date on the NTSB investigation Thursday.

The transportation secretary stated that DOT individuals were on the ground in Ohio a couple of hours after the derailment. In an interview Friday, President Joe Biden defended his administration’s response and rejected criticism they’ve been slow to act.

Inside 2 hours of that derailment, the EPA was once in there. Within 2 hours. Every major company in the US govt that had anything else to do with rail and or easy-up used to be there and is there. Along with that, I’ve spoken at length to the congresspersons, the governors, the senators from both states of Pennsylvania and in Ohio. And I’ve made it clear to them anything they need is on hand, or we’ll make it on hand to them. Whatever happens here, we obtained to be mindful is the responsibility of the railroad firm who’s made, through the best way, tens of billions of greenbacks in income, tens of billions of bucks of profits today.
