Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), a conservative member of the House Freedom Caucus, called former President Donald Trump’s prison troubles a “really difficult distraction” on MSNBC Tuesday.

Reacting to a clip of former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R) arguing that Trump’s indictment through a grand jury within the Peach State on Monday presented a possibility for the GOP to rebrand itself, Buck concurred that “what Republicans wish to do if we’re gonna win the White House in November of 2024 is to talk in regards to the concerns that American citizens care about and take a look at to get far from the Trump indictments and the truly scandalous nature of the accusations surrounding this president.”

“We wish to discuss about the border, we need to talk about inflation, we wish to speak about crime within the streets,” introduced Buck. “These are concerns that Republicans are strong on and need to run on. So this is a in reality troublesome distraction to try to win the White House, and especially when the prime candidate is the subject of these indictments.”

“I’m curious, though: Is that what you hear from your ingredients?” requested Chris Jansing.

“You understand, my ingredients are split at this time. We have now plenty of Donald Trump supporters in Colorado, and they are adamant that this president is being handled unfairly. We’ve received quite a few different Republicans who wish to move on, who are interested by how Joe Biden is working the country and they wish to see a transformation. And so really, I see a divided party at this point,” seen Buck.

Buck, a former district attorney, has been a long way less defensive of the previous president than most other stalwart conservatives.

After Trump’s indictment for federal expenses associated to his alleged mishandling of labeled paperwork in June, Buck told CNN’s Dana Bash that the allegations towards Trump have been “very serious.”

“I might no longer really feel ok with a convicted felon within the White Home so we’ll see how the case plays out and we’ll see how the evidence is introduced and what the defenses are,” stated Buck at the time.
