Rep. Tom Rice (R-SC), who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump final year, will lose his major to a Trump-backed challenger.

State Rep. Russell Fry gained the race in a relative blowout as certainly one of six candidates who had been vying to united states of america Rice. Resolution Desk HQ called the race at 10:37 ET.

Fry wanted to go the 50% threshold to steer clear of a runoff.

Rice was amongst most effective 10 Home Republicans who voted to impeach the former president after the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

Trump said of Rice, “He lifted up his hand and that was the end of his political career — or we hope it was.”

Rice defended his vote on Tuesday morning throughout an interview with NBC News’ Vaughn Hillyard.

“, the reality will set you free, and I think that Donald Trump just isn’t the way forward for the Republican Birthday Celebration,” Rice stated. “I believe, you realize, he was once a consequential president, and we finished things that lifted all people up whereas he was once president.”

Rice introduced it’s time for Republicans to “move on” from Trump.

The South Carolina Republican advised a reporter Tuesday evening he had no regrets about voting to question Trump.
