MSNBC’s Jason Johnson said that should Florida Governor Ron DeSantis run for president, he could have to grapple with how voters throughout the united states perceive his state.

It is broadly believed DeSantis will declare his candidacy for the Republican nomination, which might put him on a collision route with former President Donald Trump, who introduced in November.

While guest-internet hosting Tuesday’s variation of The ReidOut, Johnson referred to some states face stereotypes that would harm candidates from those areas:

For my part, there are three states that you can’t in reality run from in case you’re seeking to win throughout The us. You run from New York, you’re too loopy, you’re a liberal. You run from California, you’re too loopy, you’re liberal and you’re attempting to ensure I can’t get plastic straws. You run from Florida, it’s all crystal meth and alligators, right? I mean, that’s what people assume. And I’m now not saying that’s the case. I’m saying those are type of the national reputations of those states.

So, when you see Ron Desantis running and claiming that he’s going do for The us what he’s carried out in Florida, it looks as if that’d be a problem.

He aired a clip of DeSantis boasting about his document.

“So what have we done in Florida? When they were speaking about defunding police and slashing budgets, we mentioned, ‘No longer on my watch,’” the governor said. “As much as I’m proud that Florida is doing neatly, I want the usa to do smartly. I need all of these communities to do smartly.”

Johnson requested visitor Kurt Bardella if the governor’s insurance policies on policing and crime are at the forefront of people’s perceptions of Florida.

“No,” he responded, prior to pointing to extra excessive-profile considerations within the state. “If he thinks for instance, most of this usa needs to spend most of their time banning books, that they need to spend their time coping with mass shootings, in the event that they wish to spend their time ignoring the catastrophic influences of climate change, which with the aid of the best way, will hit the state of Florida first – that’s now not a recipe for a good nationwide conversation, a wholesome national dialog.”
