Dr. Fauci on New Covid-19 Variant

Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in regards to the impending possibility of the mutating Covid-19 virus and while he didn’t say whether new restrictions were inevitable, he warned Americans to prepare.

The new variant being discussed is Omicron, which was first identified in South Africa. Starting this Monday, the USA will start to prohibit vacationers from South Africa, and 7 other African international locations so as to restrict the brand new strain’s unfold.

Stephanopoulos wondered Fauci on whether the U.S. will see new restrictions enacted to fight the Omicron variant, to which Fauci spoke back, “I don’t recognize, George. It’s really too early to claim.”

Fauci continued, “We simply truly need to, as I’ve said so regularly, prepare for the worst.”

“And it might not be that we’re going to have to go the route that people are announcing,” added the director of the Nationwide Institute of Hypersensitive reaction and Infectious Diseases, referring to the lockdowns and stay-at-home orders that were enacted in 2020.

“We don’t know loads about this virus, so we want to prepare as best as we will,” he added.

Fauci endured to delve into whether or not lockdowns and restrictions of such nature would be effective at quelling the spread of the variant, “it may prove that this education, despite the fact that essential, would possibly not essentially push us to the subsequent stage.”

The Chief Medical Advisor to President Joe Biden concluded his statements to Stephanopoulos through pronouncing, “But you want to be ready to do the rest and the whole lot,” stressing the importance of education for the incoming variant.
