Former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens has been defeated via state Legal professional Common Eric Schmitt in the state’s Republican Senate primary, according to a projection.

The race was once referred to as by way of Dave Wasserman of the nonpartisan Cook dinner political Report just 53 minutes after the polls closed.

I’ve viewed sufficient: Eric Schmitt (R) wins the #MOSEN GOP major, defeating Vicky Hartzler (R), Eric Greitens (R) and others.

Former President Donald Trump counseled each candidates in a confusing commentary he launched on Monday. In it, the former president ambiguously backed “ERIC.”

Trump wrote:

I belief the Great Individuals of Missouri, on this one, to make up their own minds, so much as they did when they gave me landslide victories within the 2016 and 2020 Elections, and I am therefore proud to announce that ERIC has my Full and Complete Endorsement!

Both candidates claimed the endorsement, and Trump didn’t provide any clarity.

Greitens served as the governor of Missouri from 2017  to 2018. He resigned amid allegations he had taken nude photos of a woman with whom he was once having an extramarital affair.

He was also tormented by other scandals.

In a commentary asserting his resignation, Greitens cited the stress the scandals were putting on his family:

This ordeal has been designed to lead to an out of this world amount of pressure on my family. Millions of dollars of mounting criminal bills, never-ending non-public assaults designed to cause most injury to domestic and pals. Legal harassment of peers, friends and campaign employees and it’s clear that for the forces that oppose us, there is no end in sight. I can’t allow these forces to proceed to lead to pain and difficulty to the folks that I love.

Greitens, now divorced, was recently accused of bodily abusing his former spouse and their kids.
