Fox News criminal analyst Jonathan Turley poured chilly water all over Trump border czar Tom Homan’s advice that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) must be prosecuted for providing advice to unlawful migrants about their rights in the case of talking to legislation enforcement.
“Are you suggesting that she will have to be prosecuted?” CNN anchor Dana Bash requested Homan over the weekend.
“I’m suggesting that I’d ask the Division of Justice, where’s that line on obstacle, proper? That’s a huge statute. So I know impeding, or any person stopping in front of me and placing their palms on my chest that you just’re no longer coming in here to arrest that man, that’s naturally impeding. However at what line—the place’s the line on impeding?” Homan responded, adding:
I’m asking the Department of Justice, who’re the prosecutors and make a decision who they prosecute, and what the criteria of that prosecution is. I’m simply saying, at what level is that impeding? As a result of that you may call it ‘Know Your Rights’ all you want. Everyone knows the bottom line is, the bottom line is how they circumvent regulation enforcement. Don’t open your door. Don’t solution questions.
Homan once more repeated the same answer when requested via Fox Information anchor Bill Hemmer on Monday.
Turley took to X to make clear that any such prosecution would each be “baseless” and “an assault on free speech rights.”
“Border Czar Tom Homan doubled down final night time that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) may well be prosecuted for web hosting a discussion board on ‘Be aware of Your Rights’ for accused illegal aliens,” Turley wrote, adding:
Such a prosecution would be an assault on free speech rights. Whereas AOC has never been a defender of free speech, theory calls for something extra from the remainder of us who worth the First Amendment. Just as VP Vance provided a powerful security of free speech in Europe, this baseless threat undermines the high ground finished in Munich.
Homan had made similar comments ultimate week while on Fox News as neatly. Ocasio-Cortez hit again at the time writing, “’MaYbe shE’s goiNg to be in TroUble nOw.’ Perhaps he can examine to learn. The Structure could be a excellent location to start out.”
