Sen. Mark Begich (D-AK) tends to be one of the vital more conservative individuals of the Democratic Birthday Party. But while he’s been principally supportive of President Barack Obama on the Affordable Care Act, there’s one problem one which he and the president could have a tougher time discovering consensus. All over an appearance on CNN Thursday, the senator mentioned that if Obama ever comes up to Alaska, he’ll “bang him over the head once or twice” unless he is of the same opinion to open up oil drilling within the ANWR region of that state.

Begich, who’s up for re-election in 2014, would not say whether he would accept an offer from President Obama to come back to Alaska and marketing campaign for him. When anchor John Berman asked if Obama’s presence on the marketing campaign path can be “useful” in the solidly pink state, Begich deflected the question by means of announcing, “Any person who banks on a flesh presser coming to the state is just not engaged on what they wish to do.”

“If the president needs to come back up, that’s his determination,” Begich persevered. “But you know what? If he comes up right here, I’m going to take him to the arctic, express him ANWR, tell him why we need to drill in ANWR, change his mind on that if I will be able to, bang him over the heads a couple of times on it. So, if he wants to return and spot what I wish to exhibit him to vary his position on, I’m satisfied to do it.”

“Seems like a dream trip for the president,” Berman joked. “Now Not sure this is going to occur.”

“Did he truly say ‘bang him on the head?’” Zoraida Sambolin asked in disbelief. “That won’t go over very smartly.”

President Obama has long adverse drilling in the Arctic National Natural world Refuge, just lately rejecting a concept that might have traded drilling rights for a fund to investigate cleaner automotive know-how. In step with Heather Zichal, deputy assistant to the president on vitality and local weather alternate, “ANWR’s off the desk.”
